Marlin is one of 4 auxiliary cruising sloops derived from the Herreshoff 1916 Fish class full keel sloop by Sidney Herreshoff. The modifications included the addition of an extended house with pipe berths, a new Marconi rig and different materials. The Marlin is mahogany planked on white oak frames. Marlin suffered a fire in storage and was donated to the Herreshoff Marine Museum in 1977. The museum subsequently had the hull restored by an experienced boatbuilder in 1999-2000. Marlin has been stored mostly outdoors under cover since the restoration.
